Let viewers sign in with a mobile number
Switch your site’s viewer sign-in to Egyptian mobile numbers, with SMS verification codes for registration and password resets.
The Egypt Phone Auth add-on replaces email sign-in for your viewers with sign-in by mobile number. It’s built for audiences in Egypt, where many customers have a phone but no email address they use. Your staff keep signing in to the Studio with their email, exactly as before.
Which numbers work
| Number entered | Accepted? |
|---|---|
| An Egyptian mobile number starting 010, 011, 012 or 015, followed by 8 digits | Yes |
| The same number typed with spaces, dashes or brackets | Yes — they’re ignored |
| A number typed with +20 or 0020 in front | No — viewers type the local number starting 01 |
| A landline, or a number from any other country | No |
What changes for viewers
| Task | What the viewer does |
|---|---|
| Register | Enters full name, mobile number, city and a password, then types the 4-digit code sent by SMS. The account is only created once the code is verified. |
| Sign in | Enters their mobile number and password. |
| Reset a password | Enters their mobile number, types the 4-digit SMS code, then chooses a new password. |
Set it up
- 1Install the add-on
In System → Plugins, enter your unlock code and install Egypt Phone Auth. Its settings appear under Studio → Modules → Phone Auth, for administrators.
- 2Connect your SMS account
Under SMS provider, enter the sender ID and credentials of the SMS messaging account the add-on supports, then press Save settings. Leave a secret field blank on later saves to keep the stored value.
- 3Tune the codes
Under OTP security, set OTP valid for (minutes), Resend wait (seconds) and Maximum wrong attempts. Out of the box they’re 5 minutes, 60 seconds and 5 attempts.
- 1Word the messages
Edit the registration and password-reset messages. They’re sent in Arabic and must contain {otp} where the code goes.
- 2Send a test
Under Test SMS, enter your own Egyptian mobile number and press Send test SMS. The test uses your saved settings, so save first.
- 3Register a test account
When the page shows READY, open your site in a private window, register with a mobile number and sign in with it.
