YouTube or Facebook isn’t receiving my stream

Quick answer

A destination only sends while its switch reads Live and your picture is arriving. Start the encoder, switch the destination on, and read the message the Studio shows if it won’t switch.

Check this first

    Open the Restream panel

    For an event, go to Studio → Feed Console → Event Hub and click Details. For a feed, go to Feeds and click Console.

    Confirm the picture is arriving

    The event or feed must be live before a destination can send anything.

    Check the switch

    New destinations are created switched Off. Flip the switch and check it reads Live.

    Paste a fresh key

    Some platforms issue a new stream key for each broadcast. Edit the destination and paste the current key into Stream key (optional) only, not into the RTMP URL as well.

    Read the message

    If the switch won’t stay on, the Studio says why. Match it in the table below.

“The media server refused the request”The RTMP URL or stream key is usually wrong, or the platform rejected the connection. Paste a fresh key from the platform.
“This channel has no stream id yet”The feed has never broadcast. Start the encoder once, then switch the destination on.
“The media server could not be reached”Wait a minute and switch it again. If every destination is affected, check the status page and open a ticket.
Saving is refused: the address must start with rtmp://, rtmps:// or srt://You pasted a web page address. Copy the server address from the platform’s live streaming settings.
Saving is refused: the address “is not allowed as a stream destination”It points at a relay service. Push directly to the platform instead.
The add button is unavailable and the counter is fullEach event or feed allows 5 destinations by default. Remove one, or ask an administrator to change the limit in Studio → System → Settings → Content → Streaming, a tab that appears once the console is unlocked.
Every platform lost the stream at once, near the endThe event’s end time passed. An ended event’s destinations are removed automatically.
