Shape recommendations and Up Next
See how the 12-title recommendation rail and Up next are built, and tag your content so they suggest the right things.
Every watch page ends with a You might watch also rail of 12 titles, and every episode page adds an Up next list. Nobody picks these by hand — MediaCore2 builds them from how your content is tagged. This page shows which fields drive them, so editors know what’s worth filling in.
How the rail is built
The rail fills from the strongest match downwards, skips anything already in it, and stops at 12. When the strong matches run out, it tops up with your most recent content, so it’s never empty. The first half of the rail keeps its order; the rest rotates a little from visit to visit.
| Watch page | Filled first with | Then | Topped up with |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-demand title | Titles in the same category, Featured ones first | Titles and shows sharing a genre | Recent titles, shows and events |
| Episode | Other episodes of the same show, from any season | Shows and titles sharing a genre with the show | Recent shows, titles and events |
| Event | Events sharing a conference or group | Events sold the same way | Upcoming events, then recent titles and shows |
Tag content so it recommends well
- 1Give every title a category
In Studio → Content → On-Demand, set Category on each title. Same-category titles are the first thing the rail reaches for.
- 2Add genres to titles and shows
Pick Genres in the Taxonomy card of each on-demand title and each show. Genres are how titles and shows find each other.
- 3Feature your best titles
Switch on Featured under Publishing. Within a category, featured titles are recommended first.
- 4Fill in conferences and groups on events
On a sports platform, events find each other through the conferences and groups set on them, from the lists in Studio → Taxonomy → Conferences and Groups.
Up next on episode pages
Up next lists the next five episodes after the one playing, from the same season, in episode-number order. It stops at the end of the season; episodes from other seasons still appear in the recommendation rail below it.
