Organise content with categories, genres and taxonomy
Set up the categories, genres and sports lists your team picks from when they create events, titles and shows.
On this page
Taxonomy is the set of shared lists your forms pick from: categories, genres, cast & crew, and on a sports platform, conferences, groups, athletes, roster positions and teams. Build the lists before your team starts creating content, so every event and title is tagged the same way from day one.
What each list does
| List | Where it lives | Used on | What viewers see |
|---|---|---|---|
| Categories | The Manage button on Studio → Content → Events (or On-Demand) | Events (required) and on-demand titles | Category pills and filters, with an optional icon and colour |
| Genres | Studio → Taxonomy → Genres | Events, on-demand titles, shows, athletes and teams | Genre chips on title and profile pages |
| Cast & Crew | Studio → Taxonomy → Cast & Crew | Events, on-demand titles and shows | Credits with named roles |
| Conferences | Studio → Taxonomy → Conferences | The two teams in an event’s matchup | A conference chip on matchup cards |
| Groups | Studio → Taxonomy → Groups | The two teams in an event’s matchup | A grouping such as Group A |
| Athletes | Studio → Taxonomy → Athletes | Roster tags on events and titles | Player cards and profiles |
| Roster Positions | Studio → Taxonomy → Roster Positions | Athletes | One row per position on a team page, in your order |
| Teams | Studio → Taxonomy → Teams | Team tags on events and titles | Team pages that fill themselves with tagged content |
Add a genre, conference, group or roster position
These four lists share one screen layout, so the steps are the same for each.
- 1Open the list
Go to Studio → Taxonomy → Genres (or Conferences, Groups or Roster Positions).
- 2Start a new entry
Click New genre (or New conference, New group, New position).
- 3Name it
Type the Name. Add a short Description if your team needs one to tell similar entries apart.
- 4Set order and visibility
Set Sort order, then set Visibility to Active or Hidden.
- 5Save
Click Create genre (or the matching create button). The entry is ready in every picker that uses the list.
- 6Reorder by dragging
Drag rows into the order you want. If dragging is locked, clear the search box and filters first.
Manage event and on-demand categories
- 1Open the category list
Go to Studio → Content → Events and click Manage, next to New event. The On-Demand list’s manage button opens the same list.
- 2Add a category
Type a name in Category name…, optionally choose an icon and a colour, and click New.
- 3Edit or remove
Use the pencil on a row to rename it or change its icon, and the bin to delete it. Each row shows how many videos use it.
Sports-only lists
Conferences, Groups, Athletes, Roster Positions and Teams only appear on a sports platform. The switch is Is platform sport in Studio → System → Settings → Integrations → Platform. Turning it off hides team tagging, the matchup, venues, live scores and these lists. Nothing is deleted, and switching it back on restores every field with its values.
