Every image you upload is optimised automatically. There’s nothing to switch on and no setting to forget. It applies to the media library, the branding images in Settings and viewers’ profile photos. This page explains what the platform does so you can prepare artwork that survives it.

What happens to an image you upload

StepWhat the platform does
CheckAn image that’s already 500 KB or less and no more than 1600 px on its longest side is left exactly as it is.
ResizeAn image longer than 1600 px on its longest side is scaled down to 1600 px, keeping its proportions.
Compress JPEG and WebPThe image is re-saved at gradually lower quality until it fits in 500 KB, stopping at a quality floor so it never turns to mush.
Compress PNGA PNG is re-saved as a PNG first. A large photographic PNG that still won’t fit is converted to JPEG, and its file name changes to .jpg.
Leave aloneSVG, GIF and ICO files are never altered.
PreviewA small preview, 400 px on its longest side, is made for the library.

Prepare artwork that looks sharp

  1. 1
    Export at 1600 px

Size artwork to 1600 px on its longest side before you upload. Anything larger is scaled down anyway, and starting at the final size gives you control over sharpening.

  2. 2
    Use the right shape

On an event, the Poster (square) slot takes square artwork and the Banner (wide) slot takes wide 16:9 artwork. Crop to those shapes rather than letting the page crop for you.

  3. 3
Save photos as JPEG or WebP

Photographs compress far better as JPEG or WebP than as PNG, so they keep more detail at the same size.

  4. 4
    Upload and check

Upload in Studio → Library → Media Library, select the file and look at the preview before you pick it on a form.

The Studio
Studio → Library → Media Library, a 1600 px event banner selected with its preview open in the side panel.

Fix an image that came out soft

  • Busy, detailed photos lose the most at 500 KB. Crop tighter so the subject fills more of the frame.
  • Text baked into an image blurs first. Put titles and dates in the event’s fields instead, where they stay crisp.
  • Re-export the source at 1600 px as JPEG or WebP, upload it, then use REPLACE on the form and save.
