Apps & TV sign-in
The QR code on the TV keeps expiring
Quick answer
Each code works for 120 seconds and only once. Sign the phone in before you show the code, then scan and approve straight away.
Check this first
- 1Sign the phone in first
Open your site on the phone and sign in before you start. If the phone has to sign in after scanning, that time comes out of the code’s 120 seconds.
- 2Show a fresh code
Open sign-in on the TV and scan the new code with the phone’s camera straight away.
- 3Check the device
The phone asks Sign in this device? and shows the TV’s name. Tap Approve & sign in.
- 4Wait for Device approved
The TV signs in within a few seconds. The page on the phone can then be closed.
What the phone says
| The phone shows | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Code expired or invalid | More than 120 seconds passed, or the code was already used | Show a new code on the TV and scan it straight away. |
| Request rejected | Reject was tapped | Start again on the TV and tap Approve & sign in. |
| No pairing code | The page was opened without scanning | Scan the QR code on the TV instead of typing the address. |
| A sign-in page | The phone’s browser isn’t signed in | Sign in, then scan a new code if the first one has run out. |
| Device approved, but the TV is on the wrong account | The phone was signed in to someone else’s account | Log the TV out under Devices on that account’s page, sign the phone in to the right account and scan a new code. |
